Same here..But I am little lucky.My PD is May 2003.
I sent the documents by June 8th,
On June 25th I wrote them a sentimental email saying that I have not been to my home country in the last 4 years and would love to see my parents in ailing(Sorry Dad!!) december atleast. I mentioned them that getting h1B stamping is really a pain and would like to have EAD/AP by then. So its better to get in the queue before the July 1st rush
Luckily they sent my package on June 26th. Hope it had reached the USCIS on time and mine is accepted.

If you download the 485 form from the following url and go to page six, it states
"The check or money order should be made payable to theDepartment of Homeland Security"
I believe previously it used to be USCIS. Now what I dont know is if they will accept checks made for USCIS or not.

You are seeing it from a complete 180 degrees than I see it. It's not us who's discriminating, it is the laws which are discriminating. I am asking them to treat us all equal, I entered the country on an H1B which was an employement based application it did not hav any country quota, then why should green cards for EB have country quota. Why should a person from India wait for 10 year and a person from Romania get it in 1 year....I think your ROW friends shold understand our position.

They say that you become what you think most of the time. Do you really think good things about yourself? Try to develop a habit to see silver lining to anything in life...it will take you a long way not only with GC stuff but other issues which we have to deal with day to day.

If there's a recession (even with a soft landing) in 2007, as many economists and Wall Street people are saying, and we don't get SKIL Act through congress during lame-duck session -- what will it mean for us? Will business lobbies still have a strong case to sell to lawmakers amid a recession?..
Yes I think you brought up a very good point. Not sure how much the recession/soft landing will affect the high technology job market. The high tech job market is just picking up in many areas and companies are having tough time to get employees. Whatever the opponents of H1B might say, the fact is getting eligible candidates is tough in many areas. And that is why many big companies are advocating visa increases (they have vested interest in only asking for h1b increase and don�t care about EB numbers; that�s a different issue). To take advantage of that sentiment � this is the best time. We don�t know how political/economic situation in next year (2007) and 2008 being presidential election year, immigration can become a hot button issue and politicians will club our issues with illegals which can confuse everyone. Lame-duck session is our best chance yet to have any of our measures. Corporate world looking for more H1B numbers will work hard and try to put in their measures in some bill. We have to work hard to have our measure clubbed to them.
If SKILL bill is passed in total that would be our best case scenario but I think its really difficult (anti-immigration groups and their lobbying is much stronger than many of us think; just look at what happened in the last one year to several bills that are even slightly favorable to legal immigration).

If the options are sign or do not sign and no EAD/GC for a long long time or never, I would just sign the damn thing. This contract is way too restrictive and lawyers will find lot of loopholes. Let him go to court. If he dares to, what do you lose? $10,000? He has to spend more than that, face publicity, lose reputation among clients ( send the freaking agreement to all his clients and advertise in all awebsites) and intense scrutiny by Homeland Security and possible arrest. Just somehow document all your conversations which implicate him and be prepared.
